Violette Stehli is an artist and ethical jewelry designer. She grew up in California, graduated from the University of Sydney’s School of the Arts, and is now based in Paris. She works out of a leaky old factory built by her great-grandfather where she also tends to her extensive collection of rare plants in the company of her cats, Buster and Charlie.
Each piece is handmade with utmost care in her studio, using recycled silver and certified Responsible Jewelry Council gold. Her work is fundamentally influenced by nature, with pieces that are made from casts of bones, teeth, claws and other organic materials she finds while travelling. The end result of each talismanic piece born form this process is to create an intimate connection between the wearer and the natural world.
Her first collection was released in late 2013 and was distributed exclusively by the acclaimed French luxury retailer l’Eclaireur.
In addition to making jewelry, Violette Stehli also makes experimental films, hand-drawn stop-motion animations, art installations, etchings, and sculptures, which have been shown in museums, art galleries, pop-up exhibitions, and film festivals.
